The Canadian Offroad Championship Series (CORCS) scheduled Red Deer as the location for the first major race of the offroad season in Alberta. This race was held by the very well run Clutch Nutz club of Red Deer Alberta, located 1.5 hours from both Calgary and Edmonton Alberta.

The club put a lot of effort into hosting the 1st leg, little details like having on site food, medic station and even a dedicated watering crew really showcased both the sport and the clubs positive manner. Local sponsorships and donations also have helped the club run great events though out the years, This year a large tent was donated by a local church, proceeds from the rental of the tent went back into local charity.

This the first race of three are the preliminary rounds to determine a provincial champion for this region. The Xray Canada team with its team leader Korgae Scales arrived on Friday, to set up headquarters and proceeded to dial in the best setup for the track conditions. Wayne Mah, defending Series champion was delayed and arrived early Saturday morning.

Since Wayne had run on this track numerous times before he had a setup in place that would need only some minor tweaking. After comparing notes with other team drivers, everyone was on the same page. The added antisquat adjustment on the TQ contributed to a faster car through the washboard section, an area where XRAY car gained valuable time and distance. The first heat went very well with Wayne setting a TQ time that held the entire weekend. Craig Miller, Greg Mills and Korgae Scales also all had runs fast runs in the 1st, this allowed the team to work as a team to improve and test the new cars added features in the remaining rounds.

As the dust clear after the last round qualifier, Xray managed to seed 6 of 10 cars into the A main event set for the finals to be held the next day. The weather co-operated throughout the weekend and while the forecast did call for rain, we were all thankful that it did not arrive. Two bump up formed the 12 car field in the A main 1/8 buggy event. With Wayne sitting in pole position it was a certain advantage as when the race started he was away from the pile up that occurred before turn one. Craig Miller also managed to get by unscathed.

Wayne and Craig extended a half lap gap between the rest of field and had looked like it was shaping up to a close race until Craig had to retire with a blown wheel bearing. Wayne eased up a bit but a little too much which then allowed Ty Tessman to close the gap, they exchanged the lead position numerous times. Ty was forced to drop back after his rear suspension locked up and soon later a blown tire. Wayne continued to lead for the rest of race taking the win. Korgae Scales finished in 4th after coming back from a bad start. Corey 5th and a bit further back was Greg Mills.
